About Us

In September 2005, a class of first year law students were looking for ways to link what they were studyihng to more recent events.  Thinking of the devestation of Hurricane Katrian, their professor, Ian Kerr, encouraged them to explore ways they could help provide the necessities of life.

A group of students took this idea and formed the Common Law Class of 2008 Community Gift.  The group created a partnership with Habitat for Humanity National Capital Region to build a home for a local family.

Acting Dean Daniel Gervais announced the project at the first Canadian "House-in-a-box" build at Ottawa City Hall.  Students from French and English Common Law programs joined community members in constructing a house frame to be shipped ot Katrina victims in Louisiana.

In the 2006-2007 school year, students will continue their campaign to raise the $75 000 necessary to build their Habitat home in September 2007.
